National Civil Rights Museum, located in the former Lorraine Motel
where Dr. King was assassinated on April 4th, 1968. A wreath hangs
on the spot where King fell; the plaque in front quotes from
Genesis 37: "Let us kill this dreamer and see what becomes of his
dreams...". BCM donors Peg Rosenkrands from Detroit and Steve
Clemens from Minneapolis were part of the consultation on our
financial future. Three of our friends and supporters in Memphis:
Andre and Lisa Johnson and Billy Vaughn.
Zehnder: Our Favorite Local Band
Tim and Tom Zehnder, active members at
Immanuel Presbyterian
Church in L.A., performed music at the 2002 BCM house party at
the Kinsler's in Altadena, CA. You can find out more about their
excellent, faith-based and politically progressive music at their
website, and
order a free copy of their new DVD, "A Song of Peace"!
The East L.A. Theological Reflection Group
This local Bible study group has been going for 15 years. It began
in the living room of Ched Myers' home with Fr. Mike Kennedy and
Fr. Luis Olivares in 1988, and has moved around to the LA Catholic
Worker, Dolores Mission and other venues. It is now back in Ched
and Elaine's living room (706 Burwood Terrace in Highland Park),
meeting every second and fourth Wednesday morning from 7:30-9 am.
Come along and check it out.
The Neighborhood
A couple of photos from around the Highland Park neighborhood. A
work party at 706 Burwood house in 2001. And good friends who live
across the street from Ched and Elain: R to L: Rafael Arechiga,
Pepe Palma, Roberto Gonzalez and Frank Arechiga (taken in 2002).
These dudes are good buddies of our Cooperative.
